REPRESENTATION

LATINO REPRESENTATION

Latinos have been underrepresented in Hollywood. This lack of representation can be damaging since the number of Latinos around the world is increasing.  It is more likely for Latinos to watch movies they can relate to.

MAIN CHARACTER
This is why we have decided to make our main character a Hispanic woman living in the United States. She will be born in America but her mom Immigrated from Columbia. Her mom has a college degree and was medic in Columbia but when she came to the United States she wasn't allowed to be practice medicine in the US.  So now she works a lot of blue-collar jobs to help maintain her family. Our main character never met her father since he left them when her mom was pregnant. Being a Latina has made it hard to have the same opportunity as a white family.

WOMEN:
Women in sports drama have not been represented at all. There are little to few movies who capture the story of women playing a sport. This is why it so important for our character to be a woman. Most people watch men's track everyone knows who Usain Bolt but no one focus on the women part of track.

BUSTING MISCONCEPTIONS:
We are trying to use this movie to open the publics' eye.
#1: Latinos are all Mexican
In the United States, it has been believed that if you speak Spanish then automatically you are Mexican.  But this is not true Hispanics come from all over the world especially South America, countries like Columbia, Argentina, Peru, Venezuela, Uruguay, etc. There are other countries like Cuba, El Salvador, Nicaragua. Realistically most Spanish-speaking people originated from Spain that is in Europe. This is why we have decided for our main character to be Columbia to try to not feed the misconception every Hispanic is Mexican.

#2: All Hispanics have tan to dark skin, brown eyes, dark brown hair, and thick accent
This misconception is also big in the United States. Especially in other movies when there is a Hispanic character they are usually the stereotypical light skinned, brown eyes, and this accent. An example of this is in the 70s show the only "exotic" character is Fez.
He is called Fez because no one can pronounce his name. He is known for his thick accent when speaking English. His character help creates the stereotype of how immigrants and foreigners, especially Hispanics, who live in the United States look like. But in reality, there is different types of Latinos and how they look like. They can have blue eyes, blonde hair, white skin. That is why our character will have white skin, light brown hair, and light brown eyes. She will speak Enlglish fluently as well as Spanish.

All of these people are Hispanic
Good Representation of Hispanic in Movie/TV
