I have decided that our genre will be DRAMA/SPORT!
The conventions of this genre include the main sport focused on throughout the movie, as well as an athlete who is the main character. This type of usually uses real-life situations with realistic setting stories and characters. This is so the audience relates to the characters and adds the connection with the audience. Much of the story is taken up with social interactions between characters and relies on dialogue to tell the story. The story includes realistic struggles and pains, which usually form a realization at the happy ending of the story. This type of movie wants the audience to invest in the story and show an emotional reaction to it. This is done when the main character goes through something traumatic and needs to work hard to achieve their goal.
The production of this type of movie usually shows different types of mise-en-scene which show the conditions the main character is living in. It could be poor and rich just depends on the story the director is telling.
Another big aspect of drama sports films is not making it about a last big game/fight it is about the process the main character went through to get there. What makes drama sport's films good is the backstories of the character and how interesting these characters. The story won't work with a 2-dimensional character or a "perfect" character they have to have flaws and something that makes them special.
BUT WHY CHOOSE DRAMA/SPORT?
Drama is the second most popular genre in the United States and since sports work well with drama we decided to do a hybrid and so both. The drama caters to both males and females fairly equally with only 9% of the difference.
